Spectacular Speroni Saves Palace

Following a 4-1 victory, A first win under the floodlights for a fair few years, Crystal Palace were hoping to keep their run of form going. As the South london based club entered the fray, the fans were jubilant and were hoping the display from a meer 4 nights ago would be reincarnated. The game had a slow start in which both clubs hit one or two shots at the opposing goalkeeper.

Iconically, a fox ran across the field in which the fans applauded as in a distinctive way more interesting than the actual game. 'A fox in the box' if you will. Midway through the first half, both sides stepped up a gear and were now in an end to end game. Chris Eagles, A Burnley midfielder hit a screaming 30 yard cracker which left the crossbar rattling, this proved to be a wake up call for the Eagles who now were trying some tricks themselves. The troubling duo in the Palace Midfield proved dire in this weeks fixture, Dorman and Garvan.

The Second half was around the corner and Palace looked like they were on top. A young Wilf Zaha replaced Kieran Codogan, which proved a very good descision. Quick, tricky and full of confidence the youngster was skinning players for fun, something which he seems to do best, however, it looked like he thought he was playing in an ice rink, slipping over several times. Controversionally, Andy Dorman was replaced, him being the better out of him and Garvan, but with a defender, Julian Bennett. Later on it would seem the only Julian to be deemed a hero was standing in goal wearing a green jersey.

The most wild substitution came towards the end, James Vaughan walked off the field but to be replaced by a striker, nowhere near branded a fan favourite, Calvin Andrew. The manager must have believed there was potential from his mediocre heading ability.

Towards the end, Burnley were piling on the pressure and if a team was likely to score, it would be them. As the game drew to an end Burnley were ultimately on the break and with a man overlapping, the ball was played to a Burnley attacker and as he looked certain to score, out of nowhere comes this saviour, Julian Speroni diving across the face of the goal. After a lot of pressure, the Crystal Palace goalkeeper made a flurry of saves before the final whistle blew and the game ended in an entertaining 0-0 draw. Crystal Palace next week travel to Derby County, whilst Burnley will be sure to pile the pressure on Bristol City's David James when they pay a visit to today's visiters.
